Our U13 side began their All County U13 Cup campaign this evening, they welcomed Downings to Pairc Naomh Ultan in what was an entertaining game. Naomh Ultan got off to a dream start when Ethan Byrne opened the game's scoring with a goal. Downing pointed soon after to narrow that lead, but that three point advantage was restored when Oisin Boyle got his side's first point of the evening. It was a low scoring first half seeing each side get four scores each, however it was goals that proved to be the difference. Downings responded well getting two more point to make it a single point game and were close to levelling the encounter, that was until Evan Cunningham played in Dylan McHugh with a great ball to hit the Downings' net for his side's second goal. Naomh Ultan's good lead was restored before the break, Downings made it one less with another point but just before the whistle McHugh added to his goal just scored with a point from play. Things went from good to better for Naomh Ultan in the second half, they rallied and got scores from Oran Reynolds, Dylan McHugh and Bobby McGuinness. There was fight in the Downings team who pointed and got a goal of their own soon after. The young Dunkineely side composed themselves and reacted well to conceding. A McHugh free, a point from Ethan Byrne, another McHugh free and a point from inside forward Evan Cunningham asserted their dominance in this one, 2-9 to 1-5 was on the scoreboard as the game approached the last ten minutes. Similar to earlier in the game, Downings' persistence ended up paying off as they got a goal and a point again, making this a one score game with three points in it. Evan Cunningham got his second point to push that lead out and yet again Downings responded getting two consecutive points. The game at this stage could have gone either way as the final whistle approached, Naomh Ultan worked the ball up the park to inform Dylan McHugh and he made no mistake hitting the Downings net.
