Our U14 LGFA team welcomed Fanad to Pairc Naomh Ultan this morning, Saturday, August 13th. In probably the warmest weather conditions we've seen in Dunkineely for a long time, the girls put on a great performance to get the victory on a scoreline of 3-8 to 2-6.
Naomh Ultan raced into the lead early on, Sarah Hegarty, Clodagh Murray and Clíodhna O'Shea pointing one each. Fanad reacted to this and found themselves a goal to level proceedings. Hegarty converted a free from 30 metres out and got a great point from an individual run soon after. Another free was put over by her to restore Naomh Ultan's three point advantage they had previously. Fanad got a free of their own to then narrow it down to two points right before the water break. With record temperatures being forecast today and tomorrow the Donegal CCC decided to introduce water breaks to all games, they were very much needed today. Naomh Ultan 0-6 Gaeil Fhánada 1-1
The quick break did Fanad wonders, they scored a point from play which was shortly followed by their second goal. They added another score to their tally and this took them in at the break with a three point advantage. Half Time - Naomh Ultan 0-6 Gaeil Fhánada 2-3
Naomh Ultan made up for not scoring in the previous quarter by rallying after the half time interval. Sarah Hegarty netted after another strong individual run from the middle of the park. Emma Huntley then matched that by fielding a high ball in well and finishing with another goal for her side. A six point turnaround in advantage of our side to which Hegarty converted another free to make it seven point coming into the final water break. Naomh Ultan 2-7 Gaeil Fhánada 2-4
It was to by Naomh Ultan's day as Sarah Hegarty topped off a player of the match performance with her side's third and her second goal of the game. They just needed to see out this game and that they did, Clodagh Murray pointed to put some more between them as the final whistle was looming. Fanad did battle towards the end and were rewarded for their efforts with two scores, a free and a point from play. Full Time - Naomh Ultan 3-8 Gaeil Fhánada 2-6
Congratulations to the team and their management on the result, they now go through to the Semi finals. Time, date, venue and opposition to be confirmed, keep an eye on our social media pages and our website/club app for information. Check out our Facebook page for photos of the game.
