Our U16 LGFA team faced Gleann Fhinne at home in Pairc Naomh Ultan yesterday evening, Tuesday, May 24th. It has been a busy week of football for some of these girls, playing in their third or fourth game in the past week. Nonetheless they put in a good first half performance, Glenfin opened the scoring with a point and that was matched by Kelly Gallagher who scored from play. It was Glenfin that kicked on a little from there, scoring three unanswered points from play to put them in the driving seat. Gallagher converted a free to tighten the margin and soon after Naomh Ultan hit the net to put themselves in the lead. Elisha Lowther had a shot saved by the Glenfin goalkeeper but Sarah Hegarty reacted quickest to the rebound and scored. Kelly Gallagher then made it three points for herself after slotting over from a ball off the post. Elisha Lowther kicked a point soon after to put Naomh Ultan three ahead but right before the interval Gleann Fhinne netted after the ball went in off the post. A seesaw affair of a first half which saw the sides all square at the break.

If we thought we were going to get a similar half of football in the second half we were sadly mistaken. Glenfin came out all cylinders firing and unfortunately our team weren't able to match their scoring power. They got a point from play, a free and then a goal to put them well ahead within the first ten minutes of the half. The Glenfin team then repeated that order of scoring again to multiply their lead by two and stretch it out to ten points. Naomh Ultan did keep battling and got some consolation from their efforts when Clodagh Murray pointed from play. Glenfin finished their evening off with two more scores to put the result in no doubt. A disappointing result considering the team's first half performance, however they'll have to move on quickly and focus on the next fixture at home to Burt. It is currently scheduled for this Saturday however we've yet to receive confirmation on it. Once we have notice we'll update our fixtures on our website.
