Our U15 team welcomed Naomh Muire, รochtar Na Rosann to Pairc Naomh Ultan yesterday evening, Monday, May 16th for the next round of the SRB Division 2 league. The conditions were mediocre, considering the showers throughout the day the pitch was slippy and wet underfoot.
It was Naomh Ultan that got the scoreboard moving when Dylan McHugh pointed a free from close range. Naomh Muire got two points from play and built up good momentum, then getting a goal for their efforts to put them 1-2 to 0-1 up. Young McHugh wasn't laying down and got a goal for himself to tighten this fixture right up. Caolan Reynolds then added a point to tie proceedings in this tight affair thus far. However, Naomh Muire did react getting their second goal which was followed by two more points from play. Bobby McGuinness pointed to lessen the lead but that was again cancelled out by another Naomh Muire point. Caolan Reynolds then pointed a free to take Naomh Ultan to 1-4 for the half, Naomh Muire then got the last point of the half nearing the whistle to finish them off with 2-6.
The lads from the Rosses got the opening score of the second half with another point from play, that was responded to soon after by Bobby McGuinness' second point of the evening. Reynolds then converted a free to put four between them. It looked as if Naomh Ultan were on the ascend but it wasn't the case unfortunately, Naomh Muire rallied and scored 1-5 over the course of the next ten or so minutes. Shaun McGuinness did get one from play , although yet again Naomh Muire responded well, getting two more points.
Reynolds did bring the fight to them late on, scoring a goal and pointing straight after to make it 2-10 to 3-13. With the way these games swing and the number of goals that are scored in 11 or 13 a-side games that wasn't a massive lead and Naomh Ultan were most definitely still in this one. However, it was Naomh Muire that got the next crucial score, hitting the net to put daylight between the sides. They could have had another goal moments later when they were awarded a penalty, but it was brilliantly saved by the Naomh Ultan net minder Corey Boyle. Naomh Ultan got the ball up the field and won a free near the opposition goal, which was kicked over by Reynolds to give him a return of 1-5 for the evening. Naomh Muire did get their fifth goal that they were hunting for at the death to widen the margin and finish up the game.
A disappointing result for this side, although there were plenty of positives to take from it. Up next is Na Rossa away next Monday, May 23rd at 7pm away. They'll be looking to get back to winning ways in this fixture and we wish the team and management the best of luck in that game!
